THE AUTHOR

Erin Blair Sorensen is a perpetual researcher, serial volunteer and transcriber of The World War Two Diaries of Hobart Henning Sorensen. Deeply curious by nature, she has always been drawn to uncovering the stories behind people and events, which led her to this project. What began as a personal effort to preserve her grandfather’s writings has grown into a detailed and accessible record for those interested in World War II history. More than a historical archive, the diaries bring to life the experiences of a young first-generation Danish-American navigating the years surrounding the war. They trace his life from the period leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor, through his induction into the U.S. Arm infantry and officer training, and his time as an instructor at Camp Ritchie, military intelligence training center. They also document his later work in London as a counterintelligence officer with the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) where he worked alongside British counterparts. As Hobart’s granddaughter, she has spent years piecing together the details of his life, guided by a deep interest in discovering who Hobart really was, beyond the official records. Erin Blair lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada with her husband, three children, a dog, a rabbit and six chickens.
